It’s that time of year again in New York where everything starts to get really festive, leaves start changing colors, and we start looking for where we can go pumpkin picking! Therefore, today, I am covering where to go pumpkin picking on Long Island, New York!
I have included both U-pick off the vine and regular pumpkin picking farms on Long Island depending on what kind of experience you are looking for!

What to Know About U-Pick Pumpkin Farms & Patches
If you have never picked a pumpkin off the vine, there are some things you should know before you go!
The first time I picked pumpkins from the vine, I had no idea what I was getting into, therefore I am here to help you learn from my mistakes!
Firstly, those pumpkin vines have little sharp prickles. I would recommend having some type of gardening gloves with you along with some sheers to easily get them off the vine!
Secondly, picking pumpkins yourself is a messy job. Unlike the pumpkins lined up in the field that have been pre-selected and wiped down, the ones on the vine have not.
Therefore, I would recommend not wearing your favorite outfit or shoes since you’re likely to get dirt all over you.
Lastly, I’d suggest bringing some sort of wagon or cart with wheels so you can carry your pumpkins and gourds.
We found ourselves all the way in the back of the field to find our perfect pumpkin and were so bummed out having to carry it all the way back to the car.
F&W Schmitt’s Family Farm
If you live in Nassau County and don’t want to drive all the way out East (I’m also a Nassau County girl) F & W Schmitt’s farm is a little closer to home in Melville!
F&W Schmitt’s Farm opened in 1950 and is one of the best farms on Long Island to go pumpkin picking, and with good reason.
They have a huge field with hundreds of pumpkins lined up for you to take home. They also offer hayrides, inflatables (bounce house), a corn maze, farm animals, and a haunted house for some Halloween spirit.
You can also come hungry since they have lots of food at their concession stand!
Additionally, it is free entry and hayrides with lots of parking. Overall, they are pretty reasonably priced!
I’d recommend arriving early if you want to avoid crowds. Please note, they do not offer picking pumpkins directly from the vine here.
Their Fall festival usually starts around the end of September, but haven’t made any announcements for this year yet. Check with Schmitt’s Facebook page closer to September for updates!
Lewin Farm for U-Pick Pumpkin Patch
If you have been on some of my other Long Island posts, there is a good chance Lewin’s Farm will pop up because they are one of my favorite farms in Long Island to do U-Pick!
They have a pretty large field where you can actually pick your pumpkin and gords right off the vine!
While their pumpkin farm is family-friendly, they do not really have any attractions other than picking your own pumpkins, fruits, veggies, and a corn maze.
If you head to Lewin Farm, make sure to stop at their farm stand, where they have tons of fresh produce and amazing roasted corn!
As you get close to the farm stand, look out for signs leading you to the pumpkin field. Parking is usually on the grass. I’d recommend bringing cash to pay.

Harbes Family Farm
If you are looking for a day trip out East on Long Island, Harbes Family Farm is a perfect place to add to your itinerary. In terms of outdoor and farm activities, they have you covered all year round.
They are now 3 farms strong with locations in Mattituck, Riverhead, and Jamesport, Long Island. Their pumpkin-picking festival is held at their Mattituck location, and it features U-Pick pumpkins off the vine!
Harbes family farm is extremely family-friendly, with a corn maze, barnyard animals, and a playground. All my friends with kids absolutely love going here!
They also have a vineyard making, so everyone without kids also loves going here! Enjoy apple cider donuts, roasted sweet corn, and tons of apple cider to drink!
Depending on the season, they also offer apple picking at their Orchid (extremely popular), berry picking, and a watermelon and peach harvest.
They get pretty busy on the weekends so plan accordingly and check out Harbes Facebook Page to stay up-to-date on their events!

Water Drinker Farm Pumpkin Patch
If you didn’t already know, the Water Drinker Farm has some of the most beautiful Sunflower fields on Long Island, which already makes them one of my favorite farms.
They offer regular pumpkin picking (not off the vine), hayrides, corn maze, farm animals, and more! The staff there are very friendly and are reasonably priced. They also always set up fun photo props.

Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm
This family-owned farm is perfect for all your pumpkin picking needs. Their farm offers 26 acres of 18 different pumpkin varieties that can be picked from the vine!
Aside from pumpkin picking, you can also take advantage of their corn maze, hayrides, and even hand painting. For more information, check out Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm Facebook Page.

Hank’s Pumpkintown
Located in Water Mill, New York, Hank’s Pumpkintown is the perfect place to visit if you want to go both apple picking and pumpkin picking. Their farm is perfect for the whole family with tons of activities including a maze park, wagon rides, tractor, games, corn mazes, and more.
The farm has well over 16 acres to explore! After finding your perfect pumpkins, head over to the Market, where you can indulge in baked goodies, including candy apples, apple cider donuts, baked pies, cookies, and much more! They will be open for fall festivities and pumpkin picking until October 31st.

Elwood Pumpkin & Christmas Tree Farm
If you are looking for another fun place to pick pumpkins off the vines, consider visiting Elwood Pumpkin Farm. Beyond pumpkin picking, you can enjoy their corn maze and hayride, and they are pet-friendly.
If you are also already thinking about Christmas, they have 20 acres of Christmas trees you can cut yourself (during the season)!

White Post Farms
While I wouldn’t personally visit White Post Farms because they are also an exotic animal farm, it is still a very popular place to pick pumpkins for those who don’t mind it. Therefore, I just wanted to add it to the list.
They are located at 250 Old Country Road, Melville, NY 11747, and offer pumpkin picking, hayrides, and other fall activities.
Windy Acre Orchard Apple and Pumpkin Picking
As a fifth-generation farm, Windy Acres Orchard offers both apple picking and pumpkins on the vine. The farm is 8 acres with a large free playground, a corn maze to explore, and live music every Sunday in the Fall.
In addition, you can U-pick peaches, nectarines, a variety of vegetables, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries all season long. Additionally, they make their own French fries, soft-serve ice cream, and apple cider donuts. The farm stand also has additional yummy treats! Stay up-to-date with the farm on their Facebook Page.

Fink’s Country Farm
Family-owned and operated for over 70 years, Fink’s Country Farm is another great place for a fun family-filled weekend. The Fink’s Fall Fest of 2024 takes place every weekend and includes hayrides, a corn maze, jump pillows, play areas, and more!
This farm does U-pick pumpkins from the vine, which are sold by the pound. You can stay up-to-date with current events on their facebook. Throughout the year, they also have peaches, watermelons, and more.

Brightwater Farms Fall Harvest
Located in Bay Shore, the Fall Harvest at Brightwater is one of the best places to be for all fall festivities, along with pumpkin picking. From late September until the end of October, you can enjoy pumpkin picking, homemade apple pies, apple cider donuts, Halloween decorations, beer, wine, hayride sing-alongs, and more.
Their farm is considered one of the oldest operating farms on the south shore, and is ready for you to enjoy your fall festivities here. For pumpkins, it is .75 cents a pound. Stay up to date on their website.

Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms on Bagatelle
Open rain or shine, head over to Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms on Bagatelle located in Dix Hills. Their Fall Fun event is happening 7 days a week and offers great pumpkin picking on Long Island, Hay Rides, Apple Cider Donuts, Local Roasted Corn, and more!
While admission to the farm itself is free, entering into the pumpkin patch is $5, but much less than some of the other farms around Long Island. They also offer tons of fun photo opportunities throughout the pumpkins with your friends and family.

Crossroads Farm at Grossman’s
If you are looking for pumpkin picking in a really low-key setting in Nassau County, Long Island, you might want to check out Crossroads Farm at Grossman’s!
I actually used to live about 5 minutes away from this very tiny farm and drove past it every day for work. They are the closest Organic farm to NYC and sell local produce and honey from hives right on the property.
If you are looking for a full-on pumpkin-picking experience with hayrides, large fields, etc, then this is not the place for you.
However, if you want a very relaxed, (possibly close to home), pick your pumpkins and leave to carve them, consider visiting here! Check Crossroads Farm Facebook for event updates!

Places to Eat Near Cross Road Farms Pumpkin Patch
Since this area is my old stomping grounds, if you are looking for good food, I can recommend the following:
A&S Bagels in Franklin Square for their huge variety of delicious bagels and cream cheese. They get very busy on the weekends. I personally would go just for the bagels. For some reason, they always mess up my egg sandwich order, but it’s delicious otherwise! My favorite bagels are the cheddar cheese and french toast bagels.
You can also get a late-night snack since they are open 24/7. I should also mention they have been voted the best bagel shops in New York!
Gonzo’s Mexican Grill in Garden City South for burritos and quesadillas. I use to order from here once a week until I moved.
King Umberto in Elmont for fried capellinis (OMG so good!) and pizza. If you never had a fried capellini, it’s very thin pasta in alfredo sauce and fried into a patty.
Valbrook Diner in Valley Stream is our favorite diner and before we moved, we went every weekend. The owners (2 brothers) are so nice and the food is always great! Every time we come home, we always stop by!
