It’s that time of year again when we hop into all things fall, and lucky for New York, there are tons of fall activities to be had! One of my favorite things to do once September rolls in is to go apple picking on Long Island, New York! So, for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC, consider taking a day trip to the farms on Long Island to go apple picking!
Best Time to Go Apple Picking on Long Island
Apple picking season on Long Island usually starts the first week of September, YAY! Depending on the year/weather, apple picking in Long Island can go into the end of October. Before going to an apple orchard, I suggest giving the farm a call to make sure there are still apples to pick!
Lewin Farm for U-Pick Apple Orchard
If you stay up-to-date with my Long Island, New York posts, you’ll notice Lewin Farms is one of my favorite farms to visit for Apple picking and even pumpkin picking on Long Island!
This apple orchard is fairly large and has a variety of apples to choose from! Believe it or not, Lewin Farm is actually the first place I visited on Long Island to go apple picking!
Their apples are usually ready by late August and can sometimes go into November on occasion.
Apple picking tip: Head to the back of Lewin Farms orchard for the best apples!
Lewin Farms is great for everyone, however, their farm is more for people who are just interested in U-pick apples and leaving. You will not find additional attractions for kids except a corn maze.
Lewin Farms recommends you call before coming, as the field might be closed. The U-pick is also cash only.
There is an ATM at the farm stand, and you will need to drive here first for further directions to the apple orchard. While at the farm stand, I’d also suggest checking out their delicious baked goods, roasted corn, and fresh produce.
After you finish apple picking, head to the Long Island Vineyards! Close to Lewins is Baiting Hollow Farm and Vineyard! It is a cute/chill, and lively vineyard that usually has live music on the weekends. They also have rescued horses on the property!
