Lavender Fields in New York You Won’t Want to Miss!

When you think of lavender fields, I am sure you’re automatically thinking of France. Eager to find some lavender fields close to home, I learned about Lavender by the Bay right outside New York City!

I was even more shocked to learn they are located in East Marion, (Long Island) New York, since I live in Long Island!

When to Visit Lavender Fields in New York

Lavender by the Bay grows both English and French lavender. The French lavender is usually in full bloom during the first two weeks of July, however, the weather is always a huge factor each year.

The English lavender blooms in mid-June and mid-September. During the blooms, you can visit the farm 7 days a week from 9-5 and walk through the fields! (Times are subject to ticket purchases for now).

Lavender by the Bay

Lavender by the Bay opened their family-owned and operated fields in 2002 located in East Marion, New York. They now have over 80,000 plants, two locations, and sell their products all over local New York Green markets that support local farmers.

Being one of the largest lavender farms in the USA, you can imagine they get quite busy! We arrived around 11 AM on a Sunday at the East Marion, and there were tons of cars lined up. This is easily one of the best things to do on Long Island in the summer!

Once arriving, you are encouraged to walk through the fields of lavender, but please remember to be respectful of the plants and nature around them! Do not crush the flowers.

While walking through the fields, don’t be surprised to find tons of bees hard at work and other critters. Don’t worry, though; they only care about the flowers!

The fields are quite large, so after taking all your insta-worthy photos through the Lavender fields, take a seat in the many chairs placed all around the fields, and just soak in nature!

Overall, visiting Lavender by the Bay is a really cool experience and a top instagram spot on Long Island!

Before leaving, don’t forget to check out Lavender by the Bay’s gift shop. They sell tons of high-quality lavender products such as soaps, dried lavender, and essential oils. Additionally, they even have bunches of fresh Lavender to take home. Buying fresh lavender bunches is great for photos, too! Get your tickets on their website.

Just a ferry ride away from Manhattan, Governors Island opened up its lavender farm in 2017! Although not as large as the fields of lavender on Long Island, they have 500 plants to enjoy and are located much closer to the city. You will also have a beautiful backdrop of the NYC Skyline!

Additionally, these lavender fields are brought to you by the Earth Matter volunteers and are a free NYC attraction to enjoy in the summer! If you are looking for lavender fields near NYC, this will be the perfect option for you. You can even plan a whole picnic!

These NY lavender fields are located in the South Battery of Governors Island and are called the South Battery Lavender Field. Governors Island is open from 7 AM – 6 PM and accessed by ferry. How To Get to the Flower Fields
Visiting the lavender fields is the perfect day trip or weekend getaway from New York City! Long Island is best explored by car. You could take the Long Island Railroad or buses, but at that point, you may waste so much time just trying to get there.

If renting a car was out of the question, I would use a combination of the train and Uber. If you’re coming from the city, Governors Island might be your better choice, but you won’t see the large fields Long Island has.
